Subject:Free Amazon Prime for students
Posted by:theonlytime.
Time:2:28 am.
Amazon is currently giving free 1 year memberships to Amazon Prime (free 2 day shipping, $3.99 overnight shipping) to current students with a .edu email address: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info I'm not sure how long they're offering this (it doesn't say on the site).

Just thought i'd give fellow students the heads up on this in case you haven't heard about it yet. This is going to save me a ton on shipping textbooks this year!

Hi Beloit :) I'm Abby, I hail from MN, and I'm a prospective student. I have applied to Beloit (haven't heard back yet!), and while I'm not sure how active this community is, I have a few questions:

1. How is the psychology department at Beloit?

2. How selective is Beloit, exactly? I got a 530 on the math section of the SAT. I did fine on the rest, and I have an A average at a really competitive and academically rigorous school, so I don't know how that'll work...

3. If I'm going to do an overnight, which night should I choose? I know I can't do one on a Friday or weekend, which sucks. I just want to get a good feel for the school.

4. Can you do other study abroad programs? Like, for example, my mum did the Sweetbriar program for her study abroad in France, would Beloit be compatible with this program?

5. How is the party scene at Beloit? I'm sure this question has been asked bazillions of times before, but I know it changes with every year.

In reading back entries, Beloit has moved up on my list. The admissions process for Beloit has been great; everyone is really welcoming. I had a tour but I honestly cannot remember if I interviewed, which is bizarre... I got rejected from both Bates and Grinnell, and I'm kind of bummed, but I'm hoping that I'll find a school I like even more. That school could be Beloit! Cheers :)

liberty_etc pointed this out to me, so all credit to Erin. And admissions.

Beloit's essay prompt (PDF) is not an essay!

"Beloit's viewbook is titled, 'The Beloit College book of love, luck, fame, flops, art, soup, soul, sweat, green lights, big ideas, impossible questions, captains, huggers, band, marmots, glaciers, risks... and everything else otherwise known as life.' What words otherwise describe you or your life? No essay required, just words."

To quote Erin: "yo alma mater...wtf?"

As an aside, everything they wrote about me in the viewbook is false.

Graduated folks are dying to know: which professors are getting axed? This article says the cuts include all non-tenured faculty, which i refuse to believe.

If this isn't...classified...please spill the beans, folks.

Subject:TV for Sale!
Posted by:animeonna.
Time:5:42 pm.
Alright, I've got a TV I need to sell, I'm graduating in December and this baby ain't coming with me. It's a Sanyo DS24425 24" Flatscreen Television. More detailed specs can be found here: http://www99.shopping.com/xPF-Sanyo-DS24425

This TV was purchased new in January of 2007 and has a two year service plan so if there are any problems with it before January 30, 2009, take it to the Walmart in town and they should fix it or replace it for free. It works fine now, good picture and sound, and I'll include the remote, users manual, and cable antenna with it.

I'd like $100 dollars for it but I may be willing to negotiate. It can be picked up any time after the late afternoon of December 14th (Sunday).

Subject:Prospie with a question: CS dept.?
Posted by:keilexandra.
Time:9:04 pm.
Hi everyone! I'm Lisa (also known as Keix) a prospie hailing from Delaware (also known as Dela-where?), the second-smallest state with a smaller population than Rhode Island.

I've been researching Beloit after someone pointed it out as a small LAC in the Midwest, since I'm expanding my location parameters. I'm not thrilled about Wisconsin or what I've heard of Beloit the town, but Beloit the college sounds fantastic (especially the BSFFA). Currently, my prospective majors are English and/or Computer Science, with secondary interests in creative writing and linguistics.

So, my question: what is the strength, relative both to Beloit and to other LACs, of the CS department? I've heard very good things about the humanities side (sadly no linguistics, but I can live with that); however, I can't find much information about Computer Science. It's not really a hard science and I'm not that hardcore about it, so I'm looking more at diversity of course offerings, quality of professors, etc. rather than specific research interests.

Any opinions you might offer would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Subject:RIAA shit.
Posted by:almost_there.
Time:11:29 am.
Hey, I was wondering if anyone else on here had been contacted by Charlotte Slocum Patriquin, Director of Information Services and Resources and received a letter from the RIAA at any time in the past. They request that you delete the "possibly illegally downloaded file" file from your computer.

My questions is, is there anything I need to do about this beyond just delete the file? Do I actually need to contact the RIAA?

Also, this is a bunch of bullshit, mainly because my computer is a piece of crap and no longer produces any sound out of its speakers, so I can't even listen to the "possibly illegally downloaded file". But that's a different rant.

Subject:Hopeful for a non-raining Spring Day
Posted by:hani.
Time:3:51 am.
Mood: sleepy.
I hope (after looking at Weather.com and Wunderground.com) that this Spring Day will be nicer than last year's! Lots of wind, it seems like, so hopefully whatever is out on the Quad will be tied down well, but I'm apprehensively excited.

Ah, another day without class!

Enjoy printing, scanning and photocopying with the Dell Personal All-in-One Printer A920. The A920 is a single unit that has three functions in one compact and sleek peripheral saves valuable work space in your dorm room. USB cable and owner's manual included. I'm asking $50, but the price is negotiable. Has worked really well for me and the only reason I'm looking to sell is that I now have a Mac.

Hi guys!

I have a favor to ask!

I’m finishing my degree on Psychology Moscow State University in Russia, and as a part of it I’m doing a case study. My subject is people's beliefs about the concept of family.
If you could please help me out and take the test that would be great.

It would be also great if you could forward it along to your friends and associates. This is restricted to people between the ages 22 and 40.
Ideally I need 30 people - 15 male and 15 female. The test only takes about 10 minutes to complete.

Here's the link:

Thank you very much!

Thank you for your consideration!
